Meet the team

Drawing on decades of experience, our management team continue to push the boundaries of global solar development. By finding new ways to utilise cutting edge technologies alongside innovative financial structures, they are paving the way for solar energy to fulfil its true potential.

Nick Boyle
Chief Executive Officer

In 2010, Nick founded Lightsource Renewable Energy, then just a six-person start-up, now Europe’s largest solar PV developer and operator. Before the inception of Lightsource, Nick sat at Board and Senior Director level in a number of leading retail financial service companies. Throughout his career, his entrepreneurial skill and success in pairing retail financial products with low-risk, predictable investment revenue became well known throughout the industry. In his role as CEO, Nick’s dynamic leadership and vision has driven Lightsource to tremendous success in just six years.

Paul McCartie
Chief Investment Officer

As one of the company’s founders, Paul has overall responsibility for financial structuring of deals and debt project financing of Lightsource’s portfolio of solar assets. He structured and led the procurement of over £1.1 billion of project finance debt in 2015, including the first ever sterling, benchmark-sized bond, and the largest ever sterling renewables bond. Paul’s experience and knowledge, gained throughout a successful career in project finance at Investec Bank and Rolls-Royce Power Ventures, are essential to Lightsource’s development and expansion from start-up to industry leader.

Kareen Boutonnat
Chief Operating Officer

Following Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and Engineering Management, and ample experience aiding growth, development and expansion in a number of start-ups across a number of fields, Kareen joined Lightsource in 2012. Becoming first Managing Director and then COO, Kareen’s knowledge and expertise has driven the delivery of an extensive pipeline of commercial solar projects for the company. These significant achievements set Lightsource on course to break the 1GWp milestone, and secured its position as the largest solar energy company in Europe.

James Brooks-2 (Large)

James Brooks
Chief Strategy Officer

James has had an impressive career in private equity, spanning 13 years. Prior to joining Lightsource in 2016, he was Head of Energy Investment in EMEA for Goldman Sachs, one of the largest private equity investors in energy, globally. This wealth of experience ensures that James is perfectly placed to oversee strategy, international development and product and technology innovation at Lightsource, leading the team in ways they never dreamt possible, and driving the company’s global expansion.

Will Cooper
Chief Financial Officer

Bringing a wealth of experience in both listed and privately owned companies covering all aspects of finance, Will joined Lightsource in 2016. He’s a qualified accountant and treasurer, holds a degree in commerce and accounting, and has gained significant financial expertise during a successful and varied career. Having previously held senior finance positions at Infinis Energy, the UK’s largest independent renewable energy generator, Will is perfectly placed to lend his expertise to Lightsource’s expanding legacy.

Dr. Ece Gürsoy
Chief Legal Officer

A member of the Law Society of England and Wales and the Istanbul Bar Association, equipped with multiple law degrees and a PhD, Ece’s innovate approach to management and team construction has led to the development of a modern in-house lawyer, one who’s remit extends past traditional legal duties to cover most facets of the business. This value has recently been recognised by the Legal 500 Awards, who named her the Inhouse Environmental Individual of the year, 2017.

Mark Turner
Managing Director
Lightsource Services

Bringing with him extensive experience in strategy and change management from a wide range of industries, Mark has played an intrinsic role in Lightsource’s emergence as a leading provider of PV solar operations and maintenance (O&M) services. Our O&M fleet is now the largest in Europe, with Mark’s team guaranteeing the performance of 303 separate sites, totalling over 1.3GW. Mark’s knowledge and skill has been intrinsic in developing our diverse portfolio, which contains over 7,500 acres.

Adele Ara
Director of Asset Management
and C&I

Blending an MSc in Economics for Arts, Culture and Communications with a strong background in renewable energy, Adele has brought to Lightsource not just an abundance of experience in Asset Management but also invaluable business acumen and investment knowledge gained through her previous career in banking. She now oversees the department dedicated to managing more than 1.3GW of solar assets and a continuously growing and diversifying portfolio.

Conor McGuigan
Director of Acquisitions

Since the very beginning, Conor has been one of the driving forces of planning and development at Lightsource. He held the title of Director of Business Development and Planning for five years, taking responsibility for the development and acquisition of all large scale solar projects in the UK and Ireland, including a ground-breaking floating solar installation.
